Happy Tequila Day!

24th July is Tequila Day!
Today is National Tequila Day! That’s right, there’s an entire day dedicated to celebrating the Mexican spirit, tequila. It first started in the USA and Mexico but in recent years the celebration has also been adopted in the UK due to the rising popularity of the drink. So what better day to tell you more about the tequila range and how it came to be!
Carlos, as I named him, started off as a doodle. This page from my sketchbook was from 2018.

I was loving the Fiesta trend at the time, not that a flamingo fits that theme but I just love flamingos!
This was around the time I was getting to grips with Adobe Illustrator (the software I use). Carlos the Cactus was the first illustration I drew from scratch in Illustrator to practice and learn as much as possible about the software. I prefer the freedom and ease of drawing with a pen or pencil, so most of my illustrations start as an outline either in pen or on the iPad with the Apple Pencil. I then transfer the artwork to Illustrator to tweak and colour in.
This was the first draft of Carlos
Carlos stayed hidden away on the laptop for few months whilst I focused on other ranges. When I came across him again, I didn't know what to do with a happy cactus. I started to play around with fiesta ideas and somewhere along the way I thought of tequila! Like most of my ideas, it came back to a food and drink.
I had fun coming up with the quote and it reminded me of how much I like Margaritas! (responsibly of course 😉).
I thought it would make a great greeting card for a birthday, celebration or just because someone likes tequila.

So grab the salt, cut some limes, and raise your glass, Arriba! 🌵 (Please drink responsibly) 🍸😊
Have a great day!
